Transmission Repair RipOff

I had my van at Engine Tech Center in Lincoln Park for transmission repairs in January. Total cost was $1,706.90 (used trans) Warranty is 6 months or 6,000 miles on parts & labor. The end of April, the trans went out again & I had it towed back to Engine Tech Center. The mechanic Mark told me there should be no problem since it was still until warranty.

1) Van was there for just about 2 1/2 weeks when Mark tells me (when I called for the 4th time) that they lost my key so they couldn't even start the van to do anything so they called a locksmith to cut a new key. No call was made to me that my key was lost they just took this upon themselves to call a locksmith. Now personally I would call the customer to see if maybe they had an extra set they could drop off before I would call a locksmith and oh by the way I was not even asked about this before it was done.

2) Mark then tells me the company who they got the trans from (Dix Auto Parts) says it was driven in first gear. Yes it was for a total of 4.1 miles when it went out on me so I could get it home. I drove 25 miles an hour down a busy street with emergency flashers on to get it home.By the time the van was driven in first gear, the damage was already done wouldn't you think?

3) Mark then tells me Dix Auto Parts won't cover it because it is over the mileage warranty by 800 miles. I am a single mom with 2 girls - I go to & from home, work, school, grocery shopping etc... Between Detroit & Livonia MI (approx 40 miles round trip) they are trying to say I drove that van 6,800 in 4 months. I told them I don't care what they are saying the odometer says that could easily have been fixed to their advantage & probably was so they don't have to cover it. There is NO WAY I drove 6,800 miles in four months.

4) I then dropped talking to Mark & spoke to the owner Jeff who didn't want to hear about the lost key, locksmith, first gear, nothing & kept saying it is a used trans & over the mileage (yeah because you guys made it read that) I told him this was bad business & he knows it. He then agreed to call Dix Auto to see what they could do.

5) Jeff calls me that Tuesday afternoon & says they will give me 10% off on another transmission. 10% off on another trans???

They have dragged their feet on this & have tried every way to get out of honoring the warranty - I know they fixed that odometer just to get out of paying. I took no vacation, no long trips... I can't afford to especially with gas prices. I have had a rent a car all this time at $200 a week - I can no longer afford this. I want Engine Tech Center to honor this warranty, reimburse me for this rent a car since if they had done what they were supposed to do to begin with, I wouldn't have to get in the first place. I had to borrow money & take a loan for this $1,700 to begin with & it lasts 4 months??? And then they try to get out of it & want me to pay for another one??? And offer me 10% off??? Please help me get Engine Tech Center to be a real business and take care of their customers instead of ripping them off.
