I don't feel so bad now seeing these other usacomplaints.com about Auto Express. I purchased a used l998 Toyota Corolla with 5-speed manual transmission at the Fredericksburg dealership on September l. Paid cash for the car. On the way home, I noticed a small crack in the windshield. Well this was just the beginning. It would not pass Maryland inspection because of the crack, so I had to have it fixed.
When I got home, I noticed they had not included the title in my paperwork. When I called them back, they said the title probably was at their other store and they would get it for me. Well, come to find out, the title actually was being held by the finance company which the previous owners had used. There was still a lien on the car! After 30 days, my temporary tags ran out, and I had to drive 70 miles back to Fredericksburg to get them renewed. Another month goes by, still no title. So I drive back to Fredericksburg to get ANOTHER month of temporary tags. Finally, sometime in November, the finance company releases the title.By this time, the clutch pedal is making noise and the air conditioning has stopped working. The repair shop I go to says the clutch problem is in the transmission and eventually something is going to go and it will require tearing down the transmission. The a/c problem is 3 different leaks and the shop says it will cost about 750 dollars to track down and fix them. This is after I had the a/c recharged with freon and drove out to Detroit in July of '04, only to have the a/c conk out in 85 degree weather. I had to drive back to Maryland with the windows open. Seeing the writing on the wall, I sold the car in September and cut my losses.
If this dealership is still open at the Manassas VA location, I would warn everyone, when they see their sign, to just keep driving by!
