It's been four years or more, so there is likely nothing that can be done about it, but here is my story.
It started at Mobile Express Lube on Alafaya Trail. After having my fluids checked and replenished, the mechanic said that my 1998 Ford Econoline F150 needed a fan belt and referred me to Complete Automotive. I drove straight there and had them change the belt. Within two weeks the van began sounding like a sewing machine. So, I brought it to Complete Automotive. It had plenty of power, and there were no lights indicating that the engine needed serviced, it just sounded like a sewing machine. The owner said "That sounds terminal." We will need to start disassembling the motor until we find the problem. I waited in the lobby until they informed me that the mmotor was shot and needed to be replaced. I spent around $4500 that I didn't have for the new Jasper Motor. Within a couple of days the sewing machine sound came back. I popped the hood and this time saw that the fan belt had a piece of rubber hanging from it and slapping the side of the motor as it went around. The owner informed me that the mechanic had left out or placed a spacer in the wrong spot. I asked him "Do you think the motor was unnecessay?" He said "No."

It's obvious to me that when they initially changed the fan belt that the allignment of the belt was performed incorrectly and that I really didn't need a new motor.
