On Sept. 2001 I made a sudden stop on the freeway and the timing chain jumped. I had it towed to my mechanic who said it was a failed tensioner. He installed a NAPA (after market) part and it failed a day later. He installed a dealer part and it made a rattling sound then failed as well. I had it towed to Crawford Buick Dealership and they said that it was locked up and I now needed a new engine. I did some research and discovered there were several recall campaigns and several defects reported on my engine (Quad 4) including "timing chain rattling on start" and the tensioner has been redesigned several times. There was also a service bulletin relating specifically to "tensioner procedures". I have been in contact with GMC but have not hared back from them yet. This debacle will now cost over $3000.00.
