Cars & Transport

I bought a 1994 Isuzu Trooper from the car dealer. I noticed that the check engine light came on frequently while driving only a week later. If it had come on when I test drove it I never would have bought it. I agreed to a cash price of $5500. I put $3,000 down and paid more payments.

In June of the next year, I noticed transmission problems. I refused to pay any more money until I knew for sure what was going on with the vehicle. Well eventually I wasn't able to drive the car very far because it wouldn't change gears. The car was at the shop when it was repo'd. They are happy because not only did I almost pay for the car, but now they can resell it. The bad news is that it seems that there is nothing I can do.

I have made complaints to the BBB and other places. Is there any way I can at least get some of my money back? The lady at the BBB told me it was up to the company. What can I do? I was given an estimate for $1800 for a rebuilt transmission. The car dealer is trying to make it look like I just didn't want to pay for the car. I borrowed money from the Federal gov't to buy this car and I have to pay it back.

It just doesn't seem fair. If I wanted to get out of paying why didn't I just take the car back and let that be it. All I wanted to do was have a car to drive. I couldn't afford to pay for the car to get fixed and pay them more money too.

Please let me know if there is anything I can do. I would even be happy to have the vehicle replaced with a comparable vehicle. I think someone should be lobbying to change the car lemon laws. People should be able to get their money back when something like that happens. How would they like it if someone did that to them?
