Ripoff Rented me a lemon and did not care at all about what they did

Cars & Transport

I rented a Uhaul truck that went 1.3 miles before breaking down. The blower on the AC would not turn off, and the entir underside of the cab dash was smoking. I had to drive back to the Uhaul to get a mechanic to follow me home to disconnect the battery and some wires so that the truck would not burn up with all my stuff in it. The mechanic, however, could not fix the problem. I had to wait almost two hours before the mobile mechanic could get to where I was. At this time, the movers I had hired to help me left and I had to pay them $80 with only the loading of the truck complete.

The mobile mechanic told me that the truck should not have gone out, and the only thing he could do was disconnect the AC so that the truck would not continue to die. Mind you, I am in Phoeenix and the temperature that day reached 118F. I had to continue to use the truck and drive in the heat with no AC. I had to unload the truck myself. What would have taken 3 hours, took a little over 7 hours.

I then drove the truck back to Uhaul. Mind you, if I had not let the mechanic disconnect the AC, Uhaul would have had to come and pick up the truck and get me another one. I thought I was helping out and had already had a really bad day.

When I got to Uhaul things got worse. No one knew anything about the repairs to the truck, and the Assistant Manager, Durand, treated me like I was lying to him. For this service I felt I should not have had to pay for such poor service. However, Durand stood there and continued to practically tell me I was lying. He reduced my bill by only $24.00 and told me to call corporate. He also gave me several green coupons for future service that I balled up and tossed in the trash outside the door.

I called their corporate office and was transferred approximately 12 times before being told some one would contact me. That never happened. I had to go through the entire phone process again three days later to have a Justin from corporate finally call me back almost one week later. This person just referred the problem right back to the Tempe location.

The Manager of the Tempe location, Joe, then called me. He basically told me he would credit me another $12.00 only for my having to use the dolly and rugs in the back to finish my move on my own and could do nothing else since I got from point A to point B. He also stated he would send me $25 in gift certificates that I have never seen. This move was almost one month ago.

I feel that this Uhaul location really sticks it to their local customers. Not only did I have an incredibly difficult move, but I had the poorest customer service at any place I have ever been to, and felt like I was on trial for lying while at the store in front of other customers.

Go some where else. I used Uhaul because they were down the street from me. I should have stuck to Ryder where my past experiences have been great. This Uhaul location could care less about their customers, and their corporate office probably cares even less.
