Sold Me a Defective Strut, Then Refused a Return Because It Was Installed

Ordered strut for hatchback. After installation, part does not work. Will not mesh with the electronics of the car to lock hatchback. Won't allow a return because the part was installed. But the part was defective from the start. Hard to reconcile the fairness of that.
