Took me for over 10, 000 plus all my sales commissions and disappeared

I received a beautiful postcard about becoming a rep for Horizon Technologies to earn residual income from sales of their GPS. I paid 2, 500. Then a few days later received a call to buy into their mailing promotions for over 4, 000. I was told to pass all sales through their company so that they could explain the product professionally and close the sales and I could see my sales through my websites back office. I began advertising in a major Trucking magazine for $350 a month for about 10 months but was only seeing 6 sales in my back office. I spoke with Tracie Kalinowski one day and she commented that I was one of their best sellers. I asked, "What do you mean? I've only sold 6 GPS and I am paying $350/month for a Trucking magazine ad and ExtraEdge GPS.". She was surprised and said, "Who told you that? " And I said this was what was showing up in my back office. The company disappeared overnight without a word. I heard later from the owner who said that Tracie had been upset over how things were running there and nobody knows what happened to her. But, "he" had moved on to another company and wondered if I wanted to "buy in" again. When I said, "No", he asked for the name of the trucking magazine I had used, and I gave it to him. Why do people commit such criminal acts and steal other people's money when you can succeed just as well by being honest? I would love to be able to get my money back.
