Service Ripoff sucks for the Customer & the Ca

Cars & Transport

I had been having gas gauge problems with my '03 Land Rover Discovery. While traveling to Palm Springs, I noticed my gas needle was on "E" and I had just filled up at the gas station over 15 miles ago! I even had to turn around and return my vehichle after I had just picked it up!

I have had the gauge in the gas tank repaired twice, and they also cleaned my instrument panel, thinking this would solve the problem. Overall, I visited the dealership 4 times, before they could find/fix the problem.

On the morning of 9/3/04 I called Land Rover of Scottsdale and had to beg them to take my car and keep it over the weekend or however long it would take for them to fix the problem. My lovely Service Advisor then told the Service Tech that the problem is still happening and that I wanted to bring it in. The Service Tech, told me that the instrument panel was the problem, and they would order a new panel and to bring my car in on Tuesday (9/7/04). His advice was to fill up the car and after every 100 miles, put gas in it! So you mean to tall me that over this holiday weekend you want me to stop at a gas station every 100 miles and put gas in my car? Are you serious?

I finally had to call my sister and she requested they give me a loaner car, or the Name of the person I need to send my rental car bill to. I received a '04 Discovery loaner for the weekend, but the BS does not stop there!

After this, I sent an email to the Service Manager, the manager of the dealership as well as any other email address I could obtain, that had dealings with this dealership. I received a call back from a guy by the name of Mike, who was the other Service Manager for the dealership. I explained the issue to him, and his excuse for the Service Techs bad advice was "... He was just trying to avoid you from having to drive all the way back to the dealership". What the f*&^! I begged this fool to take this car because I was not comfortable with having this car over the Labor Day weekend, and something happens and I cannot get it to the dealership to be fixed. Then he tried to explain that the Service Advisors are the "buffers" between the people and the Service Techs.

In other words, the Service Techs have no clue on how to handle customers and they are only there to work on cars. So why in the hell did he get on the phone! Then he went on to state that they have seen this same problem with the Discovery and usually it is fixed after the gauge in the tank anf the instrument panel are replaced. So they did not think it was that big of an issue, because they thought they had this problem handled with the replacement of the panel. Boy were they wrong! I further expressed to Mike that this type of service is what I do not expect from Land Rover, and how would he feel if this was his wife, daughter or mother in this situation!

As of today, I am in the process of writing a letter to Land Rover North America and looking for another vehicle. After all of this, it turned out to be a wire rubbing against my coolant tank. They even had the nerve to charge me for a full tank of gas, which was later refunded! I will NEVER buy a Land Rover as long as I live! Too much money for half-*ss service!
