Ford bad transmissions - 2006 ford f150 xlt transmissions

I bought a ford f150 new in im 60 yrs old and don;t drive much a year 8500 miles, took my truck to a ford dealer in irvine, ca because of what seem to be transmission problems and the truck f150 i was charge 120 for just to look at it and wanted another 195 to open the transmission pan and was told i need a new transmission 3500.00 ford must not have very good transmissions to only last 54 k miles was told things dont last forever by the ford repair rep, built tough but not tough eonugh for senior to drive around town
