Cafes, Bars, Restaurants

Our experience at Oscar's was very good with just a couple of glitches. We chose to enjoy some champagne at the bar before being seated for dinner. The bartender was friendly and attentive, never allowing our glasses or bar snacks to get too low. Very nice job. We were seated and promptly by a gracious and friendly server. Everything was going well until we inquired about cheeses on the artisnal cheese plate. The server didn't know them but promptly inquired in the kitchen. After the server hesitantly named them for us we ordered one. Unfortunately, what wasn't explained was all four cheeses were really aggressively flavored and that being the case we would not have ordered the cheese plate. We did order three appetizers that were all excellent. They were the crab tempura, the seared scallops with cous cous, and the house smoked calamari. We had ordered a bottle of wine to start the meal and had finished it with the apps. The glasses were cleared, yet we were not asked if we would like anything else. What a missed opportunity to $ell, $ell, $ell.in fact, our entrees were delivered and there was no "Can I get you anything else right now." The veal that we ordered medium rare came out well done. Five minutes passed before I had to get up from the table and flag down a different server to send the veal back and order some wine for the entrees. The filet with souffleed potatoes was cooked properly and everything tasted great. The iron skillet walleye was moist and seared well but the accompaniments were overwhelmed by a strong orange flavor that really didn't go with evrything else. When the veal came back it was raw. Oh well too late to do anything at this point. Dessert was very good. We ordered the peanut butter mascarpone topped with chocolate ganache and the chocolate fondue. The fondue was okay due to the fruit was out of season and flat tasting. Overall a good meal just needed some fine tuning.
