My daughter, my boyfriend and I were driving around Galveston when we stopped at Cafe Michael Burger for lunch. We have not been there before and it looked like it would be a good place to go for a bite.
We all ordered hamburgers and fries. When we got our food, I wasn't pleased with the appearance of my hamburger. I requested extra well done, the burger was not cooked the way I requested. I didn't make a fuss because it wasn't as though it was cooked rare. I took one bite and spit it out. The hamburger tasted like it was coated with an extra layer of grease, the meat itself didn't appear to be very fresh and the guacamole tasted like it expired a couple of days ago. The burger was completly inedible, so I went to the counter and politely asked if I could get a refund on the price of the burger or a credit as I planned to purchase a salad that was more than the cost of the burger, just pay the difference. The lady at the counter told me to wait a moment. Another lady, who I assumed was either a manager or a co-owner said to me that no one else complained and in fact they had not received any complaints about their burgers, so she didn't understand why I was complaining. I tried to explain why I felt the hamburger was not satisfactory, but was met with the same indifference. She said that she couldn't give me a refund. Since I was really hungry and it was clear that nothing I said would change the situation, I went ahead and ordered the salad. (So I paid for a salad and burger, about $15 total, and could only eat the salad.) Now, I am not the type who gets overly picky about a meal (ie if I got onions on a sandwich when I did not order them, I will just take them off rather than demand a new sandwich be made). Nor did I ever have any trouble in the past with getting my money back or a replacement meal when I got food that was inedible from other establishments. I didn't eat but one small bite. (I would understand the reluctance on the manager's (co-owner's?) part if I ate half my burger before complaining.) All I wanted was to get my money back in some way for a bad burger. This is the first time I had a problem like this with any restaurant. Add to that the fact that I was made to feel like something was wrong with me and that I must by lying to try to get free food. It is possible that I got a bad patty, or bad guacamole, but if you took her word for it I am a scammer. My kid and the bf said their burgers were ok but definitely not worth the price, more like the quality of fast food burgers. I will not patronize the restaurant again and advised everyone I can tell to not go there.
