Visa Gift Card
Don't mail visa giftcard!

I purchased 2 Visa Gift Cards ($50.00, and $100.00) from Sobey's in Saint John, NB Canada on Nov. 12 and mailed them via Canada Post the same day to my sister who lives in Barrie, ONT. 2 weeks later she still didn't receive her gift in the mail so I started to investigate the issue further.

First, I contacted Canada Post and logged a ticket with them.
Next, I contacted Sobey's and got them to re-print out the receipt for me.
Lastly, I contacted Visa Gift cards toll free number and asked to speak to a representative. My goal was to provide the agent with the 12 digit code for each of the Visa cards that appeared on my receipt and have them cancel it, and resend a new card to me. 2 hours later, I was finally transferred to yet another manager within Visa to tell them about my terrible story yet again. They didn't seem to care, and told me the only way they could do anything for me is if I either had the Visa card #, the 19 digit proxy number, or if I registered it online under my name and card number.

None of these options made any sense to me. I purchased 2 Visa gift cards and mailed them to my sister in Barrie, ONT. Why would I rip the card out of the original gift wrap and write down the card # and proxy number and register it online. I could see that making sense for a normal Visa card that I may have signed up for on behave of another person... But not for a gift card.

So, the whole process took me 2 days that I will never be able to get back, and cost me $185.00. The cost includes 2 visa cards for $150 dollars, $11.00 activation fee, birthday card $5.00, tax and postage. I will never purchase a visa gift card again, and I urge everyone to do the same. There is no disclaimer on the back of the Visa card either, and Im sure thousands of people are being ripped off because of it this time of year.
