Terrible Mortgage Process!

We have been trying to close on a mortgage through Bank of America for almost 2 months now. We have now missed 3 closing deadlines with our sellers! The sellers were nice enough to let us move into the house and pay them rent, (because our apartment lease expired and we had nowhere to live!), and we all assumed closing would be any day now. BoA is very slow to return our calls, they keep asking for the same financial documentation over and over (we have submitted one thing FOUR times now), they keep asking for "just one more piece of documentation, and then we'll be ready to close." I've lost count of how many times BoA has told us they would give us a definite closing date "within 72 hours." We have nearly perfect credit, we're putting 60% down, and my husband and I both have good jobs. Yet we can't get BoA to finish up on a relatively SMALL mortgage!!! I would NEVER recommend BoA for a mortgage to ANYONE!
