Broadway Branch placed a hold on my paycheck when I had a positive balance! Rip-off!

Yes, I've been unemployed and had problems with my account, but when I finally got a job, and had a positive account balance, I didn't expect to have a 10 business day hold on my paycheck! (From a local bank).
I deposited it at an atm. I have never before had a hold put on a check that I deposited at an atm. They did send me a notice, but by the time I received it, I had spent money. So now I have 5 $22 over-charges on my account in 3 days! Plus the hold still on my check! I only found this out when I deposited another check and it shows a positive account balance and a negative amount available. Charges are racking up also from auto pays I have set up, that the check would have covered!
I called the branch right away to see what the problem was, and they tell me there is nothing they can do. I was looking at having no money for 2 weeks! I immediately withdrew $400 form the account, knowing I would have to pay another $44 for that, however, I chose to do it so I could have food and gas.
I did not deserve to have a hold on my check when I had a positive balance in the account. I am going to take this to small claims court.
