U.S. Bank
Charged overdraft fees on an account with positive balance, ripoff

Business & Finance

My husband deposited his payroll check in our checking account with U.S. Bank on July 14. There was a positive balance before the deposit, and the deposit increased that positive balance by several hundred dollars.

U.S. Bank put a hold on the check, even though it was a company paycheck, not a 3rd party check. U.S. Bank then proceeded to process all other transactions that came through on the 14th BEFORE they processed the deposit. This caused us to become overdrawn and they charged 3 overdraft fees of $34 each.

There was plenty of money in our account to cover any transactions that came through. The only reason the account went overdrawn is because they were holding the money and chose not to process the deposit before the other transactions. This is not the first time they have done this to us, and I know they have done it to many other people.

When I called, I was told this was their normal policy. I would love to see a class action suit filed against them. I have filed a complaint with the Minnesota Attorney General's office.
