Ruined My Credit, Monrovia

California Business Bureau is the rudest collection agency I have ever dealt with. My account with a hospital got turned over to them for a very large co-pay amount that I was unable to work out with the hospital because my husband had lost his job. I contacted them to ask that they accept payment arrangements and explained my circumstances. They informed me that they "do not accept payment arrangements of any kind", and that I must send them the entire balance in full.

I explained that I was not able to do so especially in light of the fact that my husband was unemployed at the time. The supervisor I spoke to then informed me that "if I wanted to apply for credit with them, I could send them copies of my last 2 years tax returns, my last 3 months bank statements, my last 4 weeks paycheck stubs, and all paperwork copies pertaining to my husband's unemployment back to the time he first filed for it."

After this paperwork was reviewed, they would make a decision as to whether or not I was "eligible to make payments" and get back to me, but until that time, I did not need to waste my time sending in any payments because they would be returned to me unless it was for the full amount. I told her I never heard of anything so ridiculous, and she said then they would be happy to ruin my credit and that the interest charges would continue to accumulate. Those were my choices.
