Checks Returned

Wrote 1200 hundred dollars in two rent checks and checks were returned from a stop payment request. Which i have no idea how this happen but so far after one week on the phone which has been a living nightmare. Chase finally wrote me an apology letter which i can not believe [i will frame this never thought this was possible from bank]. But now the apartment complex is claiming 220.00 in fees from both checks because rent is late and they are charged from their bank some kind of fee because checks did not go through. I don't want them pay my apartment complex directly, just want to pay our April s rent. Now Chase says they will not pay fees. If anybody should know about fees it should be banks. Somebody please help me because now have eviction notice on door, and getting bad chest pains. Please help.
