Bad Customer Service Takes Your Money and Keeps on Taking When Will It End?

My husband opened an account with Goodyear in 1996 to purchase a set of tires. The original amount charged was about $300.00. The account was on a 90 days same as cash plan.

My husband left for a deployment over seas soon after the purchase. The next month I called because I had not recieved a bill. The Customer Service Rep. Refused to give me any information on the account or to even take a payment from me because the account was in my husbands name, not mine. After repeated calls I finally got the address to send payments to. I sent payments for 6 months, sometimes twice a month, until my husband returned.

He called to find out what was left on the card and was told it was over $400.00. We could not believe it. They told us there had been payments made on the account but that they had been late every month.

He fought with them for months trying to get the late fees taken off. I had made nearly $300.00 in payments so far and we owed more than we started out with.

We still had not recieved a bill yet, either.

We continued to pay on this account for another 6 years. Sometimes we got our statements, sometimes we didn't. The payments were always late no matter when we sent them. After 6 years we were tired. We had paid for these tires many times over by now. Keep in mind we never charged anything else on this card. Just $300.00 6 years ago. We had already replaced the tires twice in those years. I was contacted by a collection agency today concerning this account, the balance is now over $1000.00. Is there anything I can do?
