Citibank
Account Closed After Heart Surgery Overdraft, Refund by Mail

Business & Finance

I had a checking account with this bank. I had a heart attack, was hospitalized and had open heart surgery. My son, who by the way is 15, went to the ATM to deposit a check for $20 into my account, and he accidentally entered $200. Not knowing any of this, my wife used my bank card and put my account in the negative. I spent a month in the hospital between intensive care and intermediate care.

When I got home, I found out what happened. I told the bank on the first that I would bring my account up to date, and I did. Then I had my tax refund deposited into the account because I was told that would be okay. The day my refund hit the bank, they closed my account and said they would mail a check to me.

I was not working and got behind on the mortgage, so that money was going to help me get back on track. Now I have no idea where or when I will get that money, and late fees are adding up every day. I think it is sad to treat people in this manner over a stupid mistake, and I would not recommend this bank to anyone. I hope they get theirs.
