Improper collection techniques

Granted, I have been unemployed and receive no compensation and have not received any compensation for over a year. I have exhausted all my savings regarding my means to survive and can no longer pay my creditors. I have been living in the house which my husband owns, and we made the decision when the savings had been drained that I would forego paying my creditors and being that he was still working, he would continue to pay for the expenses that we needed to survive. I fuly intend to repay my creditors once I am back on my feet again and am employed. I have written letters to my creditors and have talked personally with them and informed them of my situation - and that it was noted on my account (s). I realize that this sounds like a cop out - and I know that I am responsible for these things, but when these accounts are turned over to collection agencies as a means to recover the money - what gives these collection agencies, specifically CPC - Central Portfolio Control - to think that their way of "handling" these situations by calling and harassing their "clients", and threatening them into paying on these accounts or else they will be listed as "refusal to pay" - which is not the case! I know that collecting is part of their job, but they really don't know what it is like to NOT have a job and to be down and out in their life - and then to have someone call you and yell at you and interrupt you and not even pay attention to ANYTHING that you are saying. I am so upset at this point that it is truly difficult for me to put into writing what this company is capable of. I know that they are just doing their jobs, but I think that the tactics that they use need to be addressed!
