Hsbc are thieves! Holding my overpayment refund until 7-14-09

A payment made made on my HSBC card, via electronic transfer on the 12th -

I called and closed my account on the 14th and again on the 15th. The rep told me it would be 10 to 14 days before they would issue a refund. I just got off the phone with "David" a supervisor at the 800 # and he said because of the amount of the refund, $667, that I would need to call them back after JULY 14 - exactly one month since I closed the account to find out if the refund check has been issued to me.

He gave me the dog and pony show about "making sure the funds clear and how people in the past have their payments returned to them as insufficient funds" and that is the reason it will take so long for them to issue a refund check to me. My payment was made electronically!!! On the 12th of June!!! They are holding my money - THIS IS CRIMINAL!!!
