Hardship packet ignored and $1,000 payment refused

Citimortgage has been nothing but a problem for my husband and me. Let me start from the beginning. My husband's work started to slow down in a major way approx. 4 months ago, about the same time we had our 3rd child. My husband works for a large steel company, and with the economy as it is, he, like many people, is being cut back.

We filled out a "hardship packet," which you can print off the Citimortgage website, and faxed it in along with the required check stub and information. Approx. 3 weeks later we received a letter saying that they had received our packet and we would be notified of their decision in 30-45 days. That was in December... We STILL have not received a phone call or letter giving us the status of our hardship application.

Every time we call the 800 number, it goes straight to the voicemail of Douglas Berry (they tell us he is our loan counselor). We have left MULTIPLE messages asking him to please return our call. I have talked to other representatives who can't seem to tell me anything about our hardship application. I have also left a message for a manager, who also has not returned our call.

We received a letter today saying our house would be foreclosed on if we didn't get caught up. So I called to try to make a thousand dollar payment to reduce what we owe. I was told that I couldn't make a thousand dollar payment, and that I wouldn't be able to make a payment unless I post-dated another check for $888.00. When I told the lady I couldn't do that, she said she would have to get approval from Mr. Berry. She, of course, was having trouble getting ahold of him, and I got "disconnected." We are at our wits' end!

We aren't sure what else to do. They are threatening to take our house. They said they could help, and now we can't get anyone to return our calls or tell us the status of our hardship packet (which could save our house!). Today Mr. Berry's voicemail said, "if you have already left a message, do not leave a duplicate!" Obviously they have a high call volume... But how can they take our house without giving us a chance? It feels like they WANT it! We are going to fight this... WHATEVER it takes!
