Huge bank conglomerate sticks it to consumers Nationwide

Washington Mutual has been purchasing other banks and now owns a large share of U.S. Mortgages. That would be great if they knew how to service a loan, but they don't.

If you call customer service, they will either: 1. Never return your call 2. Be unable to help you or 3. Refer you to someone else who never returns your call or is unable to help you. One of their customer "service" automated operators actually sends you on an endless loop that repeats until it disconnects you.

Due to paperwork that was incorrectly filed by Washington Mutual, I will now have to pay about $6000 of New York State real estate taxes that I've already paid if I want to move my mortgage to another lender and get a better rate. (And of course, I do!)

Washington Mutual has refused to correct this mistake. If you are thinking about refinancing or taking a new mortgage, I would strongly recommend against going with Washington Mutual, which appears to be a huge, disorganized, inadequate and unresponsive corporate mess.
