Closing your Chase account - you still owe money!

I received my amazon chase bill today, 22 Dec after paying off and closing this account on Nov. To my amazement when I talked to their supervisor - Joseph Michaels, he told me that I still owe finance charges and late fees. Finance charges and late fees after the payoff and closing of my account? To my understanding and deep analysis chase's mediocre phone representatives impact most of its cusumers. I don't know their policy but this is what I know... I payoff my account in full all the time before each due date except the month I have not received my bill. And when I talked to their representative telling him I have not received any bill in the mail in the past 3 months until now after I closed it.

That now I have a past interest charges that was not informed to me upon my request for a full payment amount on Nov.in normal accounting practices, before an account will be paid in full the payment amount should be assessed, not based on the previous month's balance, and once an account is paid in full - it should be paid in full, no other OH BY THE WAY YOU STILL OWE INTEREST AND YOU FORGOT TO PAY THAT INTEREST SO CHASE WILL CHARGE YOU LATE FEE!!!

The bottom line is every consumer have no control monitoring over their account's daily balance even with chase's incompetent representatives, who look at the same data. Their online service is the same paper account you can see but outdated. I already closed my credit card account from chase and working on completely separating myself from them. Also, one late fee (whether their fault) skyrocketed my interest rate even with a history of consistent full payment. This is ridiculous!
