Mystery shopper scam

I received a letter for a mystery shopper with a check for 2875.00 and instructions on how to send a MoneyGram. Being that I am unemployed and have sent out many applications I thought I had probably applied for a Mystery Shopper. I called the number given in the letter and deposited the check.
For once I am glad my bank holds funds until the check cleared because of course it was returned.
I don't know what this company would be getting from this type of scam but I am going to the bank today and making them aware of the scam and if there is any way possible for anyone to get my banking information this way.
