Associated Bank "misplaced" (they say by a coding error) a $400.00 cash deposit that created overdrafts to my account. That error left me stranded in the middle of the night, out of town and out of gas without the use of my debit card. It also created overdrafts on my account the next day for checks that came in. The bank said that they couldn't do anything about "my inconvenience" of having to get someone up and out of bed to travel over an hour and 60 miles to bring me cash for gas to get home. They did however make a gushing remark about how they reimbursed me the overdraft fee's, like they were doing me a favor for correcting their mistake! 6 months later, after making a $50.00 deposit, I found I had a $500.00 crdit? I of course called and told them of their mistake, (again blamed on a coding error). What ended my business with them, was the final straw of my actually making a $10.12 error. I had overdrawn my account by that much, by using a debit card and not subtracting it from my checkbook. I called the customer service number the next day and was told that as long as the the amount I used my card for was only an "authorized amount" (funds being held) and had not yet posted, so I wouldn't be overdrawn. A deposit of $10.12 should cover my mistake. Well, I was charged an overdraft fee of $34.00 and that fee created another $20.00 ATM withdrawal to overdraft too (another $34.00 charge). I called the customer service number again and asked what was going on? I was told I would have to deposit the additional $68.00 in charges. I asked if they couldn't please give me a courtesy reversal of the overdraft charges as I had been inconvenienced on more than one occasion by their mistakes and was never offered anything other than them simply correcting their errors? I was told they couldn't give more than one credit per year per customer for overdraft charges and they had already given me credit for overdraft charges this year, (the ones that were created by their mistakes). I said they could sue me for the $68.00 and I would be closing my account. Of course you can't close a negative balanced account, so I just left it and said they could sue me for it. The next month Associated bank took $68.00 from the account of another person who had recommended me to open an account there, while they (Associated Bank) were having a promotion of "Get a friend to open an account and receive $25.00". (She never got the $25.00 from them either). Of course this was illegal of them to do, removing the $68.00 from her account and they had to refund it back to her. After that, she closed her account also.
