Consumer First
Preying upon a college student with no credit history and no job ripoff

Business & Finance

My daughter who is 18 and going to college full time and has no job, applied for a credit card online, which is how First Consumer must have gotten her name.

First Consume sent her an acceptance certificate with says she is approved for a credit line of 5000. Using the word "platinum card" to describe the credit card she would be receiving for a standard processing fee of 45.00. What caught my attention was there was no sign of a Mastercard or Visa emblem on the acceptance letter and, it said it would be sending her platinum card upon receipt of payment so it could be used for all purchases from credit provider.

Who is the credit provider? This very same letter appears in another consumer complaints. I searched the internet and found this site. This has been very helpful. Although if my daughter had not shown this to me, I think she would have signed the letter and sent the money. Thanks for having this site.
