Trying to cancel your account

After finding out that the rates being charged for the credit card transactions was way to high, we switched to a different processor. We called CardPayment Solutions to advise or our desire to cancel our account, they said that in order to do away with the "early" termination fee" that we should wait until the end of our contract year - 4 months away. We agreed even though it meant paying $59.99 p/month "minimum" fees. When the time came up, they automatically charge us an "early cancellation fee" We called to inquire about this fee since we had waited to evade said fee. Their answer was that we had to contact them 30 days prior to the end of the contract or it automatically renews itself.

I understand that it all sounds as if we failed to read the small print and now we are crying, however, the fact that they automatically charged the cancellation fee is proof that they had ample notice of the cancellation. Furthermore, after we contacted them about the early cancellation fee they emailed us forms to cancel our 2 accounts, this means that the cancellation fee charged was done without our written request but they knew about it otherwise there are no grounds for the charge. Also, when you call them to explain the issue, all they do is take your name down and tell you that the rep. Will call you about this issue.

While this may be small print contract issue, what about common sense, and honesty? We must not run our companies or country with the idea that as long as we make extra money is o.K. To screw the companies we do business with without providing them any service in return.
