Experian
Not able to dispute multiple errors on my Experian credit report

Business & Finance

I am writing to call attention to disputed information in my credit report from Experian and the credit agency's non-compliance in correcting the erroneous entries. I have attempted to contact Experian via phone and Internet but have been unsuccessful.in fact, the system for contacting Experian appears to be constructed in a way to ensure that there is no way to file a dispute with the company. When I attempt to file my dispute online I am told I must call on the phone. When I call on the phone I cannot enter my dispute through the automated system. Furthermore there is no way to reach and speak with a live human being working as an agent of Experian through the advised channels of communication.

I believe my Experian credit report has been combined with that of another person unrelated and unknown to me. This individuals name, address, date of birth and several of his previous addresses are found under the Personal Information section of my credit report. There are pages of credit entries listed in my report that belong to this other person. Evidence of this is drawn from the named co-signer of several listed loans as a person with the same last name as his, presumably this mans spouse.

I want to request that Experian immediately and permanently remove all erroneous items from my credit report. However, there is no way for me to do so via phone or Internet. As for mailing in a complaint to Experian, there are so many different mailing addresses for the company that it is not clear which one is the correct one to send a dispute.

My research into Experian and how other people have attempted to dispute false information that has appeared on their reports has revealed a collection of frustrated victims who are being asked to prove that bogus credit entries on reports are not theirs. This arrogant (and perhaps illegal) request from Experian is akin to asking an accused to prove he did not commit the crime. Like the work of a prosecutor the burden of proof is on Experian to show that these incorrect credit entries are in fact legit. If it cannot do so then the false entries must be deleted and stricken from the record forever.

What recourse do we consumers have against this company? There are many reports found on message boards highlighting shady activities going on with Experian. It is the only one of the big three (Equifax and TransUnion being the other two) that conducts its business in such a closed-door, behind-an-iron-curtain way. The other two companies can easily be reached on the phone where a real live human being takes in a dispute and typically rectifies the situation in a matter of minutes. I should also point out that all of my credit information listed in my Equifax and TransUnion reports are accurate.

But Experian? All I have read are tales of two to three year hellish ordeals trying to get simple mistakes, Experians mistakes, corrected. I am not about to be drawn into that drama. Please help me get my credit report corrected. If need be I am willing to begin collecting a group of affected consumers wising to put together a class action lawsuit against Experian for violating FCRA and FTC regulations. This company can ruin the credit for more than 300 million Americans with a few keyboard typos. We CANNOT allow this to continue.
