I accepted a Bank of America offer to settle my account. FIA, after trying their bit where they call every fifteen minutes, continued to call after the account was settled and paid in full asking for more money. When confronted with the fact that the account was paid in full, they always play dumb and then admit "oh yea, I see that now." They saw it before, but believed we were dumb enough to fall for their gig of collecting extra money from an already settled debt.
Anyone who gets calls from FIA should do two things. First, send a cease and desist letter immediately. State that they are not to contact you by phone because they will try to catch unsuspecting customers off guard to get extra payments. Second, make sure you get every word in writing. Once everything is in writing, the attorney general can verify the facts. If FIA or Bank of America is not willing to put their words in writing, do not do anything until they do. Once you receive your written offer, be careful to document every interaction to create an evidence trail.
