Homecomings Financial
I had to go hungry just to make payments

Business & Finance

When I lost my job we used my up all my retirement money to make payments. I was hoping my Social Security disability applications would be approved, but I was denied. We ran out of money and were 3 months behind when we received papers informing us we were in default and Homecomings was going to foreclose on our home.

We contacted the default payment processor, Charles Olivaras, in Waterloo, Iowa. He agreed to write a mortgage modification if we sent in $2,000.00 and made 2 payments on time. We borrowed from family, pawned some personal items, and cut drastically down on our food purchases (have you ever had to live exclusively on ramen noodles? &I did).

In December we ran into trouble&my husband works construction and due to bad weather and holiday layoffs he wasn't bringing in much money. We notified Homecomings and soon after received a nasty call from Mr. Olivaras saying we were going to have to make both December and January's payments and that they would have to be in before the end of January. We did but I had to cut back on the ramen noodles!

The second week in February we received a letter stating the payment we sent wasn't enough and our home was in foreclosure (again!). They even sent the money order ($1780.00) back, stapled to the letter, uninsured and unregistered! (We had also received a notice in January that the payments were going to go up in January and June). We contacted Mr Olivaras again, but he was extremly rude and refused to do anything else. He said he was sick and tired of babysitting people with problems (I thought that was his job) and he was going to take our home.

This house has been in our family for over fifty years. My husband has lived here since he was three days old. The only reason we got a mortgage on the property was because my husband's elderly mother contracted a terminal illness and the house needed some work before SRS allowed her to stay here while we took care of her. She died here, as did her husband years ago.

I don't know what to do. I have been ill since December and the stress is making it worse. If we don't get some help we will wind up on the streets and I'll probably wind up dead.
