Chase
False reporting to IRS on 1099C

Business & Finance

About 6 years ago Chase Bank was offering zero percent interest if you would transfer your balance to their credit card. I called to inquire about the transfer. My existing card had a balance of about $10,000.00.

The next thing I knew, I got a bill in the mail from Chase bank for $60.00 for the first payment on my new credit card...??? I called to inquire, and was told that they sent $3000.00 to the other credit company. I told them that I did not authorize this and they needed to get their money back from the other credit card company.

I disputed this for awhile with Chase & assumed that it had been resolved. To date they have not been able to provide proof of signature for the $3000.00 that they say I authorized.

To my surprise, I opened my mail box last week (6 years later) and found a 1099C from Chase Bank. They have reported an amount of $3103.95 (???) to the IRS.

I have called and emailed Chase Bank demanding proof of signature since I now have to dispute this with the IRS. They are telling me that it will take 30-90 days (I guess it takes this long because they know there is not one on file). If I remember correctly, the tax reporting deadline is April 15!
