National City Bank
Excessive Overdraft Fees is Sickening

Business & Finance

On Feb. 9th I went to the bank to deposit my child support check as I had been carrying it around for over a week. The receipt for my deposit said that 'funds would not be available until the next business day' which in my mind was Monday. On Monday I checked my balance on-line, which I always do and the balance showed the deposit I had made on Sat. I went ahead and balanced my check book from the spending I had done over the weekend and was fine.

On Feb 13 for I called to check my balance and was shocked to find out that my balance was negative $250.00. I couldnt believe it so I went ahead and listened to the items that were posted to my account and could not believe that I had been charged 9 over draft fees of $34.00 ea.

I called the customer service line trying to find out whatever I could and I might as well discussed this with one of my dogs as they were worthless. The most that they could tell me was that when my check was deposited on Sat, it did not count into my balance until Tues because that was considered to be their next business day, and then they only made $100 available to me because the check was drawn on another bank.

I could not believe this. I was shocked and sick to my stomach. When I got to work I emailed the customer service person for the branch where I opened my account and she never replied, but the branch manager did call me back to tell me that it was not a bank error and that basically it was my fault. He told me he would have to call me back. When he did, he told me that he saw where all of the debits I had made wouldve been covererd and with funds left over, but because only $100 had been made available to my account from the check I deposited it caused me to become negative when my debits posted and when they charged me the fees. I then told him that had I known I had been negative on Tue I wouldve taken care of it sooner. But because my transactions still went through, and I was in the negative, they just kept charging me more. What a joke this bank is.

They offer you all of these programs to entice you to bank with them and then they rip you off. He did finally agree to credit me back for 4.5 of the overdrafts which was $153.00, but since I had no idea I was negative and used my card at Pizza Hut and the gas station on Tues evening those went through on Wed night and I was charged 2 more overdrafts of $34 each and now Im back to being negative $250.00

Before I was banking at Teachers Credit Union but wanted to switch to a bigger bank, with more frills and stuff. What a mistake that was. I will go back to banking with Teachers Credit Union because you know what you are getting and when you are getting it. I even stopped my direct deposit from going in today because I am NOT paying for the fees that they have charged me. They have stolen enough of my money!
