Rip Off takes money from customers Port Richey

Business & Finance

On 12/24 I made a deposit through the ATM machine for 300$. It was an out of state check and I assumed a hold would be placed on it.

The following week, I checked my online statement and found that the full 300$ had posted to my account. On 1/8 I checked my online statement to see if my car insurance had posted (EFT) and it had not, however, there was a debit on hold for 200$. I looked through the statement and didn't see anything that was purchased for that amount so I looked through my register and didn't see anything either.

I contacted the customer service rep. And was told that she wasn't sure why the hold was placed, but that I would receive a letter in the mail notifying me. I waited another day, checked again and the hold was still there. I contacted the bank again and after being on the phone for almost 20 minutes, the rep could still not locate the check that was on hold or why the hold was on, only that on 1/11 it would expire and my account balance would go up by 200$.

On 1/12, I checked again and the hold was gone, but I had gone into the negative. I contacted BoA and was told that it was a banking error and I would be credited the money for the NSF fees and that it would take 24-48 business hours. Just out of curiosity, I checked the website later on that evening and found that the credit had already been placed but it was a much larger credit then I had anticipated.

On 1/13, I contacted the bank and made them aware that the credit had been placed but that it was larger then I thought it was. The rep assured me it was for the correct amount and that it was not a bank error. I withdrew the money from my account and went to the grocery store.

This evening, my husband made a deposit for 100$ and when I went to check the website, I found that another NSF had been placed so I contacted BoA. After spending almost an hour with the rep, she informed me that not only did they take back their credit, but they were going to charge me for withdrawing the money from my account.

She admitted that BoA had made a mistake in crediting me the wrong amount, but it was their money so they were taking it back. There was nothing I could do or say, they had already withdrew the money, including the check that I had deposited leaving me overdraw by 202$.
I am disabled and my husband and I are on a very tight income. The disability money gets directly deposited and thats what we use to pay our rent. Now I will be 200$ short on rent this month.
