W.I.T. Enterprises
Behind the Facade Denver CO

Business & Finance

Thankfully, unlike the previous poster, I had my experience with WIT Enterprises over the summer, so I avoided the cold weather. Mine was very similar to his experience, but there were a couple more things I felt needed to be mentioned.

The first thing that set me off was their initial paperwork. I was asked to write my "currant" address. Though I was an English major, I feel this was an incredibly unprofessional mistake no matter who you are. Syntactical mistakes and generally poor writing led me to believe that all those 20-somethings I saw working there were ALL there was. My father, well-known and respected in the Colorado business world, always told me, "beware young companies." WIT proved his case in point.

I went the whole day door to door and even sold some books. The door to door part, I was told, was only a two week long training. Then you are promoted and supervise others going door to door just like my "interviewer"... Who had mentioned how he had gone door to door himself just a few days ago. Promotion? At lunch, he told me more about the company, drawing out the basics on a napkin. Already skeptical, now outright turned off, I obliged him anyway. Their pitch is that you are basically guaranteed to make manager status within two years and go and run a branch. Only thing is, they only opened three new branches last year and were hiring five new people in Denver. So three new branches nationwide and much more than five people competing for "guaranteed" managerial positions? He was trying to convince me that the math added up, but I wasn't seeing it.

At the end, my "interviewer" and his partner divvied up their money in front of me as we drove back to the office.

Then my favorite part.

There was a door in the office that was closed when I had first gone there to fill out paperwork. I heard a bell ringing and people cheering. I thought this to be a positive, if not corny, support system. Make a great sale and you get cheered. Nice. Then, upon my return, I had to fill out another sheet and turn it into my interviewer. I finished, waited almost ten minutes, then went and opened the door in order to find him. Opening it, I saw nothing but about seven of the WIT employees standing around in an empty room with a little bell sitting in the middle of the floor. Expecting desks, filing cabinets, calendars, and water coolers, there was absolutely nothing. Bizarre, to say the least.

I also met with the "manager" who tried every trick in the book. He told me I was a highly desirable candidate for the position and they wanted me to start right away. Then, when he saw my reluctance, he came off as unsaffected, saying he'd like to have me, but it didn't really matter, the company was going to do fine one way or the other. I took his poorly-made business card and was on my way out.

The whole thing felt too "multi-level management" to me in that it wasn't a pyramid scheme, but it didn't sound much better. Not illegal, but definitely deceitful. Steer clear.
