Bogus Fees, Overdraft Charges and Online Access Blocked

June 25th, we went to our local BB&T branch to have a wire transfer, which just about wiped out savings.

June 26th we were charged $3.95 for OLB as well as a $25.00 maintenance fee. I have a small personal account used for online purchases, and that account is the one they targeted. Next thing I knew, they deposited $100 to cover overdraft charges and Check Enclosure Fees of $3.00 (which I never okayed).

I called the bank many times, talked to the online bank people, and went to the local branch. I got the charges of $25.00, $3.00 and $3.95 credited back, but the overdraft advancement was still lingering and accruing interest fees.

Then the next month, another $3.95 was charged to my account (for the use of Quicken or MS Money, neither of which we have). As of yesterday, 8/25, the overdraft account had been resolved.

Today I went online to see if perhaps the $3.95 had been resolved and got a disclaimer notice that is 13 pages long, with the option to AGREE or DECLINE. I declined due to several red flag paragraphs, and it said that because I declined I cannot access my account. Online, it is a hostage situation. Totally wrong!

Is it just BB&T, or have all the banks gone this route? Since typing that last sentence, I see from this site that Wachovia, Bank of America and others are guilty of fraudulent charges. Banks are stooping to an all-time low, stealing money from hard-working senior citizens... No, not just us old ones. Anyone!
