Bargain Bill Collectors ripoff

Asset Acceptance will not leave me alone. Every day, 2 or 3 times a day someone calls me. They leave those annoying messages on my answering machine at home that are automated. They call at 10 pm at night on weekends on holidays. Weekly I received discount offers from them in the mail "hurry and take advantage of our reduced discount, you can save 80% on the debt you owe". Frankly 80% of $300.00 is how much? Well they have placed a debt owed on my credit report for almost 10 times that amount.

This was a $300 credit card that my late husband had me get before he killed himself. I used the money to get a hotel room for me and the kids because I couldnt live in that house any longer.

My credit report shows a $300 debt for the Next Card and a $3000 debt for Asset Acceptance which supposedly bought the credit card in 2001. That is over 6 years ago. It was in Illinois. I am in Indiana.

How can I make these people stop calling me, to let it go and quit harassing me. How can my credit report show that big a debt for them on a card that had a $300 limit. I have been hesitant to pay anyone that kind of money. And I surely don't trust a company that sends discount letters out in the mail.
