Identity Theft, Careless Lazy Banks, Slack Security at GMAC Ripoff Eacgan Minnesota

I got a nightmare phone call yesterday from an Eagan detective in Minnesota, informing me that an individual had used my name and SS# to apply for a loan, another person used it to get a drivers license, and yet another was in the process of applying for a mortgage. He explained that there was a large ring of indentity theft in Minnesota, all linking back to people who had mortgages with GMAC. I told him I had read about the stolen laptops. He said this was a different issue with GMAC. They believe the JANITORS and service employees in the building are stealing and selling the information!

This detective emailed me PDF files of the application this person filled out. What a joke, I cant beleive that Citibank or a representative at Citibank is not involved. The references this person had to fill out were for 3 unrelated people. THis person listed the first name only, no address, and a phone number.in the margins next the pone number was written - disconnected. Can you imagine... Leaving a reference with a big bank like Citibank as "Melissa, 555-1234" and thats it? The fact that these numbers were found to be bogus means Citibank never checked the references.

The loan disbursement page listed 2 tradelines to be paid off.
Bank of AMerica for $382 and an unnamed account for $815. MY Bank of AMerica account has a $382 balance and I have an old and persistent bogus medical collection of $815 on my credit report. Why would this fraud pay off my accounts? Why woudl Citibank require THESE two accounts to be paid off. I contacted both these accounts and they never received a full payment in tht amount. Where did the money go? Was this somebody's piece for allowing the loan to go through?

I wanted to know if anyone knows of any recourse a person may have with GMAC. Do they simply get away with this while thousaands of people have their lives ruined? Has no one started a suit against them? Does a person have any legal recourse with these banks?
