Trying to collect on an old Verizon Account... Whom we still do business with

Yesterday we recieved the strangest collections notice in the mail... More strange than the ones we had got from another company regularly featured on this site regarding a "junk buyer" who apparently "bought" Fingerhut's old accounts.

Well, my husband and I looked at this and it was nice enough to provide us with a telephone number which they said the service was under. OK we go and pull out some old paperwork. Yeah, we had that for a phone number (we are active duty in the military), but, that account was CLOSED prior to 10. When we moved to our new address we had a different phone company. Oddly enough, (and we had a good laugh over this)... This account from 2001 was in my husband's name, not mine, and we use Verizon currently. It is also in my husband's name, and besides the house phone we have a wireless account with them also.

My husband is the active duty service member, and is not considered to be a resident of the state in which we are currently living. I personally think that because my husband could have the military people go after these scumbags, they have sent this to me, and unfortunately, because we are currently stationed in Rhode Island, I can't go on the statute of limitations as having ran out for them to leave me alone... Here in Rhode Island it is 15 years, longer than any other state. Yes, they checked my credit bureau, and I have some pretty excellent credit.

I think I am just goning to wait this out, they are transferring us again in four months. The new states statue of limitations is only 4 years...
