Bill for Phone Number Unused for 12 to 15 Years

I received a bill for an old phone number that I haven't had in about 12-15 years. This is the first I have heard of this. For the entire 12-15 years I have had continual service with Verizon and they have never sent me any bill. I attempted to call 2 different numbers for Afni collections and sure enough it is impossible to get through to them. The auto system says "due to high call volume they are unable to answer my call" and the phone disconnects. I have attempted to call Verizon and they will not discuss anything. I am at a loss. I am unable to prove I paid them because it is about 15 years later and who keeps check stubs for that length of time? Isn't there a statute of limitations on this? Is there anyone out there that had a similar experience, any class action lawsuits regarding this? I would like to be included in any lawsuit that may or has been filed.
