Collection Agency Fraud

I received a collection notice in my mom's name, but at my house for a debt of $3,750 to Verizon Communications. It was for a number neither one of us had, and what's weird is my mom has no linkage to my address besides one line of credit she cosigned for me. I have no idea what's going on.

Before we realized it was a scam, we spoke with Afni and they said it was for a number way back in 1995, but we live in an area code that was created in 1997!!! Verizon has no records (of course!) and Afni has a 60 something minute wait every time I call. I think they're trying to scare people away with the wait time.

I thought about writing them like some of these stories say, but what's the point they probably won't answer. We just want to find out how they knew to send her mail to my house, and if someone is using her identity. It might be an inside source releasing information. There's only one way they could think she lived at my address and it's through Care Credit. Does anyone else who has fallen victim to this happen to have Care Credit? All suggestions welcome.:) Thanks
