I had a credit card issued by RBS National Bank of Bridgeport, CT through Kroger Personal Finance which I had previously kept paid off. Their practices may not be illegal but, I would call them deceptive at a minimum if not outright fraudulent.

I found myself in a financial bind just at the time Kroger Personal Finance sent me an opportunity to free myself from it with an offer of 3.99% a 2% transaction fee. Therefore, I used one of their checks for $2,500 (my limit) with the understanding I would be charged a $50 transaction fee. I certainly wasn't expecting what has transpired.

They processed that check on 7 November and charged the $50 balance transfer fee on 8 November. Then they charged a $35 over limit fee which I hadn't expected but, accepted. On their 13 November statement they also charged a $1.92 purchase finance charge which I do not understand because I made no purchase.

I further noticed they added the $35 over limit fee onto the transaction on the 13 November statement so they could charge additional finance charges on it immediately. I consider the way they went about that to be deceptive.

Nevertheless, since they claimed my balance to be $2,586.92, I sent my payment of $90 to bring my account below the over limit amount. SURPRISE, when I received their 13 December statement, I discovered they raped me by charging a second $35 over limit fee on 14 November, the day after they sent the first statement. That is before I even had a chance to see the first statement and take action on it. If nothing else, that is sneaky if not outright fraud. That is 2 - $35 over limit charges within a week.

On their 13 December statement I notice the balance was again over limit at $2,540.91, I presume they have again charged another $35 over limit fee the day after their 13 December statement was mailed to me in another sneaky attempt to keep my account over limit. That way they can continue adding $35 over limit charges and call them purchases allowing them to charge 14.99% on them. Then never reduce them as long as there is a balance at 3.99% to absorb the total payment made.

Since I didn't appreciate being raped by their deceptive practices, I concluded that the new balance they showed of $2,540.91 on their 13 December statement will have been increased by a $35 over limit fee on 14 December. That would make the balance $2,575.91 plus whatever outlandish interest they are charging.

In an effort to overcome this, I mailed my check in the amount of $90 on 29 December in hopes the interest hadn't accumulated in excess of $14 between 13 December and the date my payment arrived. I am presently waiting for their January statement to see if I succeeded.

I believe the practices of Kroger Personal Finance are sneaky, underhanded, deceptive, devious, dastardly and not to be trusted. I am retired so have limited finances and cannot afford to be raped by unscrupulous businesses. If their practices are not illegal, they are definitely immoral and unprincipled.
