Charges for "free" credit report

I wanted a credit report. This company offered them through a website. But a month later it charged me $9.95 to CIC-CE on my credit card for continuing "membership." I cancelled the "online membership" the same day I joined and got the free credit report. Somehow they lost that part of the transaction.

I called them and after some discussion, they did cancel the membership and "even though the charges are nonrefundable" did agree to refund the amount.

They wanted lots of identifying info — I just gave them my name and the last 4 digits of my SSN, and that turned out to be sufficient.

Others have reported this same problem.
