Ripoff Told to re submit payment and would be paid off

My mortgage was sold to Homecomings in June. We made payments and then in July went to refi with a local bank. We were sent a payoff request from Homecomings and our title company sent the check out... 1 week later the check was returned for insuffcient funds, they said that we owed $6000 more for a prepayment penalty... Here is the kicker we called 2x before the final refi to verify the pay off was the right amount we were told yes...

We contacted a lawyer and he sent a letter via mail and fax and my husband and I called 2x a day for 3 weeks. Finally on September 29 we talked to John Wadle and he said to resubmit our payoff and send it to Lauren Ernst and she would walk it over to payoff and that would be taken care of... Well the check was overnighted on the 29th and they recieved it on the 2nd (which was monday).. We called on the 3rd and were told our Mortgage was sold again and that Lauren still had the check...

All this happens and never once did we get a call back from anyone. We left over 40 messages and maybe more... CUSTOMER SERVICE STINKS!!!

Well I then called on Wednesday the 4th of Oct. And talked with a Scott Hodges and he said that the check would be cashed and a wire sent to our new Mortgage company and say the loan was paid in Full... Well it is Friday the 6th and our check was once again returned to our Title company... We tried calling about this and get no where. Can someone please advise us as what we should do? We cant seem to get anywhere with anyone over there and it seems to me that they have NO Supervisors as I have never talked to one only voicemails... Thanks
