Didn't cover fraudulant charges, gave us credit without our knowledge or permission, then charged us for money stolen, ripoff

My husband and I went shopping before Christmas with our VISA CHECK CARD. Then in January, Wells Fargo calls him and says that we owe them $500 for charges that were made. My husband said, " How can that be when there was only $10 in the account?" They replied that he had been given $1000 in credit, and that the account had been run up, in some bar that we've never been to, plus a bunch of other charges.

My husband just recently paid off a truck that he'd been paying on for over 6 years, and we thought that his credit would increase, but he never asked for the credit, nor did he approve it! He filed a claim with them because there has to be some proof that he didn't run up the charges; a signature, or a security camera in a store, or something! They said that their investigation was "inconclusive"- in other words, they want him to pay the $ instead of bothering to look into it.

Now, they have lowered the amount to $150, but we refuse to pay it on principle.instead, I filed against them with the Better Business Bureau, and all claims take up to 30 days to investigate, but it hasn't stopped them from calling us 4-5 times a day; they won't give us their names on the phone, or their extension numbers. What are they trying to hide?

I opened an account with (competitor's name eleted - see below), and the financial officer said that it may be illegal, and certainly is immoral to give someone credit without their knowledge. My husband's credit rating has been ruined; we know because the lady at (deleted) looked up his credit report, and it wasn't pretty. I just pray that the BBB will work it out, so that we can close our account as quickly as possible!!!
