Ripoff of Free American Express Gift Cheque Promotion

I was sent a promotional offer of a free $75 American Express Gift Cheque with the opening of a Free Checking Account with a minimum of $1. The only stipulation was to maintain the account in good standing for 8 weeks. I ended up opening the account with $100 with no transactions for 7 months - still no gift cheque. I was given the run around when I called to inquire. I was told that since I have a common name, that it was impossible to research whether the gift cheque was ever sent out on their part - thus leaving me in the cold...
