Vanderbilt Mortgage
Vanderbilt deceptive, questionable practices, the worst mortgage company

Business & Finance

My wife and I purchased a 1996 16x80 mobile home about 6 years ago, and received financing from First Merit Bank, a.K.A. Mobile Consultants, of Alliance, Ohio. After only one year, our account was sold to Vanderbilt Mortgage, and things started going downhill. Although we've made 95% of our payments right on time, we, like most people, have fallen behind a time or two. These people never quit.

If our payment has not been made by the date due, even if late only by a day or two, our telephone doesn't stop ringing with Vanderbilt calling us, wondering why we're late and when they're going to receive their payment. It's gotten so bad, that I don't even answer the phone when they call (I have caller i.D., like most other people). They've gone so far as to call my work, a practice frowned upon by my employer. I asked them not to call me at work, and as far as I know, they haven't since. We used to talk to some lady there, who was very rude and unprofessional. Then we started talking with Tim, who said this other lady had been fired or quit or something.

Anyway, this Tim guy had my wife in tears one night. Wanted to know what other bills we had, where she worked at, and wheather or not we thought we could afford our mobile home. He actually wanted her to list every bill we had, who it was with, what we owed, addresses, the whole bit. My wife finally told him it was none of his f*ing business and that, if he wanted to forclose on our home, then go ahead and do it, otherwise, leave her the f* alone. He still calls everytime we're a day or two late, several times a day, every day. I'm seriously considering changing my phone number. The last time he called, which was just the other day, as we were 3 days late, he said, "You had better call me today, or else!"

I don't want to talk to the guy, because my patients with him is thin. Especially since we was only 3 days late. I have had it up to here with this company. Our credit is not the best and that's one thing that has kept us from refinancing. However, the acre of land that this mobile home sits on is mine, outright, paid for, with a deed and all. I'm seriously thinking about quitting paying for this home and let Vanderbilt forclose on it and move the mobile home off of my land, and then use my land as collateral to purchase another mobile home, and file bankruptcy on Vanderbilt. But, being my luck, the company who finances this new mobile home will probably sell out to Vanderbilt and I'll be right back in the same situation I'm in now. I have never hated another company like I hate Vanderbilt.

Their practices of calling repeatedly, even early in the morning and late at night (as late as 8 P.M.) should be against the law.
