I have had insurance with American Family, multiple vehilces and home, for around 20 years with very few claims (2 or 3 deer accidents). I recently (Oct. 01) called my agent and asked him to cover a new vehicle. (93' cadillac) I was selling my 92', high mileage and rusty, Ford Explorer. I told him to take coverage off of that vehicle. He called back later that day to say it was taken care of, he had switched coverage from the Explorer to the Cadillac. I did recieve a copy of the insurance, which I looked at briefly and put in my file.

I hit a deer in Feb. ($2,744.27 damage), called my agent and told him to file a claim. He said no problem, until he looked at the policy, no comprehension. I said how can that be? He checked, and then reminded me it was taken off the Explorer months before. Neither he or I caught it at the time of switching from the Explorer to the Cadillac. He also told me he did not make any notes of the conversation we had about covering the Cadillac, in fact he asked me what I remembered; nothing is written down, my word and his only. He turned it over to underwriting, at first it sounded as if they might cover, but in the end they not only refused to cover my car, they plan on dropping me for a bad driving record that my son has (not me).

Doesn't the agent have some responsibilty to oversee and advise his client? Because I recieved a copy of the coverage, am I just going to get taken advantage of? Is this a Co. Or Agent issue, or both?
