This is also posted under a report against Kaplan University, from which this complain derives, so it is necessary to include it. The section specifically against PFG is around the bottom.
I enrolled with Kaplan University 4/14/03-6/22/03. I completed the financial aid info and was told everything went through and I was clear to begin.
The entire two months I was enrolled, I kept getting letters, emails, and phone calls saying I was missing financial aid paperwork and would not be allowed to enter my second semester if I didn't send these in.
The problem arouse, that whenever I called in, I was always told something different. Sometimes I wasn't missing anything, sometimes I was missing different things, and one time I was missing everything. I talked to NO LESS than 15 people to get this cleared up because I didn't want to have any road blocks in getting my education. I faxed these papers in REPEATEDLY, whatever was asked of me.
Finally, fed up, I decided my best route was to concentrate on speaking to only one person to straighten everything out. This started with a regular student service agent, whose direct line extension I got. After a couple of phone calls, I could never get in touch with him again, even after repeated voice mails left. Then I went to the head of financial aid, with the same exact results, and on to the head of the Paralegal program, with yet againthe same results. I found out through the message boards in my classes that there were others with this same experience.
When it cam time to start the second semester, they told me I couldn't continue because of the missing paper work, and I finally gave up, realizing a dead end when I saw one. They then had the nerve to tell me I owed them almost $1800. I flat out refused to pay and got nowhere with explaining the situation. I was harassed for a long time by the school itself before they sent it to a collection agency.
I don't understand how they can claim I owe them when I have in my possession a printout from the Federal Financial Aid website that shows I was awarded a Pell grant for $3550.
After my account went to the collection agency, Pinnacle Financial Group, no amount of explaining did any good. The called me every day for 2 months, yelling at me, threatening me with legal action, badgering me, and no amount of explaining would alleviate this. I guess they were just doing their job. They would hang up on me, sarcastically tell me to hang up on them and this just went on and on. After repeated requests, and then demands, for them to stop calling, it only got worse to the point of one man even asking me what I was going to do if they didn't. I'm sure this would be revealed in our taped conversation. It has just recently come on my credit file, and that is why it has all come to a head.
Of course I have told everyone I know about this experience, some of which were considering the school. I will continue to do so until I am heard and satisfied. I don't want anything from them, except for them to clear my account and get it off my credit report. I never even received my grades for that first semester. I had to put my education on hold for 6 months to wait for the next semester at a local college to begin. I have since completed 2 semesters and am on my third with Ashworth College I am not trying to scam anybodyI just want to be treated fairly.
